Made in Asia
…In recent years, I have frequently visited neighboring countries like South Korea and China for photography, and I am always struck by the rapid pace of modernization in each of them. Just as the traditional streetscapes that once defined Japanese towns have vanished, South Korea and China are seeing the construction of high-rises and new urban districts, alongside the demolition of older neighborhoods, proceed at a speed equal to, or even surpassing, that of Japan.
I prefer walking through ordinary residential areas rather than tourist spots, turning my lens toward scenes that stir my own memories. Finding places that resemble Japan yet possess subtle, intriguing differences that is the driving force behind my photography.
My upcoming photobook, MADE IN ASIA , will also feature work shot in Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and the Philippines…
…Living in East Asia, we often struggle to clearly distinguish the differences between European nations; many who have never visited Europe tend to perceive countries like Italy, Spain, and France as much the same. It is likely just as difficult for Europeans to tell apart the landscapes of distant Asian countries. Yet, I am confident that they, too, will enjoy MADE IN ASIA.
